Caramelised Onion Cottage Pie

Serves 6
Our easy cottage pie recipe is a sure family favourite, with added Cottage Delight taste!
50ml olive oil
1 large onion , finely chopped
650g beef mince
2 tbsp tomato purée
400ml beef stock
salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
3tbsp Cottage Delight Caramelised red Onion Chutney
2 carrots finely chopped
900g potatoes, peeled and chopped115g butter
125ml milk
140g grated cheese

Cooking Method

  1. Heat the oil in a large pan or wok. Add the onion and carrot and cook until softened.

  2. Fry beef mince and veg for 5 minutes, or until browned. Add tomato purée and cook for another minute

  3. Add the chutney, stock and seasoning and simmer for 25 minutes.

  4. Turn on grill and let heat up. While the grill is heating put potatoes in a saucepan of salted water and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer for 10-12 minutes.

  5. Drain the potatoes and add them back to the pan. Mash well with the butter and milk to form a smooth mash. Add your cheese to top the pie.

  6. Put the pie filling in a dish and spoon the mash over the top. Grill for 10 minutes, or until golden.

  7. Serve with your choice of vegetables & gravies/sauces. Enjoy!
