Chocolate Orange Cake

300g self raising flour
100g cocoa powder
1tsp baking powder
300g salted butter
150g soft light brown sugar
150g light muscovado sugar
4 large eggs
1tsp vanilla extract
150ml whole milk
5 juiced oranges
100g dark chocolate, melted and cooled
100g Tangy Orange All Butter Curd
400g chocolate buttercream
Chocolate shavings to decorate

Cooking Method

  1. Heat the oven to 180°C/160°C fan/gas 4. Line two x 20cm deep cake tins with baking paper.

  2. Sift the flour, cocoa and baking powder in a bowl and stir. In a separate bowl, beat together the butter and sugars with electric beaters until light and fluffy. Add the eggs one by one followed by the vanilla extract and whole milk. Add two spoonful of the flour mix if it starts to curdle.

  3. Fold the flour mixture into the batter until just combined. Stir in the juiced orange and the cooled melted chocolate. Divide the mixture between the tins and bake for 30-40 minutes.

  4. Once cool, evenly spread the Tangy Orange All Butter Curd and chocolate buttercream on one sponge. Sandwich the cakes together, then spread the rest of the buttercream, drizzle curd and finish with chocolate shavings on top to decorate.
